On February 3, 2011, I registered JamesBondWatchPhotos.com™ as its own URL [1].

The original concept was to consolidate a mix of my own photographs and public domain distributions under a single reference umbrella that users could access from their desktops and mobile devices. Content was hosted through the same provider as this primary website, as well as its companion blog [2,3]. Part-and-parcel of that was limitation on maximum image size — but that wasn’t a concern, because these images were never intended for publication.

Contact and permissions information was clearly set down there for people who wanted to use my work as a foundation for their own efforts [4].

However, over the years, I’ve come to see more and more outlets have used my photographs without my consent, nor, for that matter, even acknowledging James Bond Watches or me as creator. Sometimes this had meant “borrowing” my images from places that, themselves, had not contacted me about posting my stuff  — after which the secondary taker went on to wrongly credit the source from which they’d obtained my images as author.

That hurt their audiences even more than it hurt me.

  1. “Definitive List” posters have often mixed one or more of my verified James Bond watch images with other not-correct visuals to complete their stories. Thus, otherwise slipshod efforts were given a veneer of legitimacy by association with the quality of my investments.
  2. Many of those circuitously obtained images have been of insufficient resolution for the scale or size-in-medium where they’d run. That compromised the beauty and detail of images to which I believe the viewing public was entitled to see.

Let’s not go along with that any more.

For my part, I have addressed both of these problems by redeploying my James Bond Watch Photos content from this platform, here, to a platform that specializes in the presentation and distribution of creative content produced by professional photographers. I’ve used Flickr in connection with James Bond Watch since 2010 [5], and, separately, for some of my separate initiatives since 2011 [6]; I’ve always been extremely happy with them. That made the go-to decision easy.

From this point forward, original photographs will be posted at the highest available resolution for each, and available for immediate download under “Creative Commons Licensing with Attribution for Non-Commercial Purposes, No Derivatives.” Among other things, this means that I retain all copyrights and that all uses must reference James Bond Watches as copyright holder.

As alluded to above, my primary interest is in making access expeditious for credentialed media and entities that produce educational content related to James Bond watches. While users certainly can go straight to Flickr for this, I strongly recommend that they start with the James Bond Watches “Photography” page for helpful, up-to-date information on content organization.

At this point there are only eighteen images hosted on Flickr for James Bond Watches.

In support of my ongoing James Bond Wore the Quartz Revolution™ gallery at the National Watch & Clock Museum, I’ve prioritized making available Hamilton, Omega, Seiko, and TAG Heuer models related to that, from Live and Let Die through GoldenEye.

I have also put a bit more focus on the Literature James Bond Rolex Explorer, with models both author-correct to On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and to what I have of the actual Reference 1016 that was personally owned and worn by Ian Fleming. This, too, has been to back Museum interests — as well as recognizing that I may well be the only source for meaningful Ian Fleming watch photographs.
