PRESENTATION

Set up in collaboration with Museum Director Noel Poirier [4] and thanks to generous ongoing support from Ian Fleming family heirs, special arrangements were made to extend loan permissions on “The Original James Bond Watch” [5] for this feature.

That 1960 Rolex reference 1016 Oyster Perpetual Rolex had first been brought to the United States to serve as centerpiece for the “Watches, James Bond Watches” exhibition in the rotating-content “Stonehenge Gallery” within the Museum. Due to ongoing interest in this historical artifact, the decision was made to gauge its appeal in a more focused placement here.

To provide some additional perspective, the Explorer was displayed along with a “Sports 100” Seiko model that was screen-correct for Octopussy, and an Omega “Casino Royale” Limited. An Uncorrected Proof, and a first edition, first impression of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, as well as an issue of WatchTime magazine [6] open to key content related to discovery of The Original James Bond Watch further rounded out kiosk content.

EXTRA

A 2½-minute video was produced to both cover this display on the Museum floor and to show each of the three displayed James Bond watches within operating, telling time [7].
